Living in a warm climate has its advantages. We still have flowers blooming, and butterflies are still showing up to eat nectar. Monarch butterflies swarmed our garden in early November during their migration to Mexico. There were dozens of monarch’s all over our Mexican sunflowers. It was amazing!
There is something so peaceful and beautiful about butterflies. I love nature. I love being outside. I see God everywhere I look. The sky, flowers, birds, insects, trees, and all of it. He made everything. There is no denying a Creator when you stand in His creation.
Here is a short video of the butterflies that were in the garden on Saturday, January 1, 2022.
What an incredible way to start off the new year. Butterflies happily feeding on my sunflowers in the middle of winter. It makes me smile. Those butterflies have not a single concern. They do exactly what they were designed to do. Eat nectar, and get to Mexico for the winter. Sounds pretty good to me.
God takes care of the butterflies. He provides flowers with nectar for them. He also gave monarch’s the instinct to migrate south for the winter. Monarch’s use environmental cues to know when it’s time to make the migration to Mexico and California. Amazing! If God cares for butterflies, then He is definitely going to care for us too.
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Matthew 6:26, NIV
You are much more valuable than a butterfly, or a bird. God loves you. He loves caring for you. Take a deep breath in, and know God is watching over you. Trust Him. Now get outside, if it’s not too cold, and watch how He cares for all of creation. You are worth more than that. He’s got you.
Love you all,
Meghan

Butterflies, little creatures, birds — all of them so wonderful, and God watches over them all. To think that God loves us even more. How wonderful! I am reminded of the song: “His Eye Is On The Sparrow.” . . . “And I know He watches me.” Yes, His eye is over all of us. So beautiful. Thank you Meghan.

When I was a teenager, I heard Mahalia Jackson sing “His Eye Is On the Sparrow” at a Youth For Christ rally. I’ve loved the song ever since. So much truth in those words and Matthew 6:26. Thank you for reminding us, Meghan. Love the Monarchs and your flowers. Where did you find Mexican sunflowers? I’d love to plant some in my garden. I’ve only seen 2 Monarchs this year so far. Lots of others, including swallowtails, but only 2 Monarchs. It worried me. Glad to know you saw many of them.

Mahalia Jackson’s version of His Eye Is in the Sparrow is incredible! What a wonderful experience to see her perform live.
Tom got me the Mexican sunflower seeds last Christmas and I planted them in the spring. They get huge! Easily 10 to 12 feet tall & they reseed themselves like crazy. We had no idea that they would attract so many butterflies. I don’t know where he got the seeds. Maybe Lowes? I’m not sure. The cold snap just killed them off for now.
Thank you Sharon!

Maybe Tom could think about where he got them and eventually remember for Spring. I’d love to get some. Are they in full sun?

He bought them in December of 2020 and he thinks it was Lowes. Yes they are in full sun.

I love this article. There was a movie that was made many years ago that had the title, “Butterflies are Free.” I love butterflies.

It was a very nice move. Sometimes I would like to have a butterfly net, just to catch them, and then to let them go.
