Dole Whip

dsc00445

The name Dole Whip will be familiar to any Disney fans. Disneyland started serving this fantastic ice cream treat back in 1986 at the Tiki Juice Bar which is part of The Enchanted Tiki Room. The popularity has grown so much over the years it’s now considered an iconic refreshment at the Disney Parks. There’s even Dole Whip merchandise for super fans.

You don’t need to take a vacation to enjoy a Dole Whip. You can make this easy frozen treat at home. All you need is a blender and three simple ingredients. Pineapple juice, frozen pineapple, and vanilla ice cream combine to create a delectable flavorful dessert.

Pineapple soft serve is refreshingly cool and sweet on a hot day, or any day. This version of Dole Whip is absolutely delicious with the same wonderful texture and flavor as the original. Enjoy this delightful frosty treat.

Happy Eating!

Dole Whip

Ingredients

½ cup pineapple juice (4 oz.)

2 cups frozen pineapple chunks (10 oz.)

1 large scoop vanilla ice cream (approximately ¾ cup)

Yield: 2 large servings or 4 small servings

Directions

  1. Put pineapple juice, and frozen pineapple chunks in a blender and pulse for a few minutes to chop the pineapple. Add vanilla ice cream and blend on medium high until combined. Stop every so often and give it a stir and keep blending until everything is smooth and creamy.
  2. Place the finished mixture in the freezer for 30 minutes.
  3. Scoop into bowls and enjoy. If you want the iconic swirl, then use a piping bag with a star tip. Pipe into serving bowls just like soft serve.

Notes

  • After you fill your piping bag, place it in the freezer for a few minutes before making each serving. It’s very soft ice cream and melts quickly.
  • You can use fresh cut pineapple. Just freeze it before making the soft serve.

  1. This recipe sounds so delicious, plus pineapple is a wonderful fruit with lots of good things in it.
I have a food book, written by a doctor who says that pineapple is good for arthritis. I think, however, we would have to eat a ton of it to get the inflammation under control. But pineapple added to a diet is a really good thing. This comment is grabbed by my credentials as a licensed Registered Nurse. Food is one of my favorite subjects. I love your recipes. Thanks Meghan!

    1. I never thought about the health benefits of pineapple. That’s incredible. I forgot you were a nurse. I love nutritious food and I love desserts, so I always share both. And I love food too. It’s a blessing to be able to share one of my passions, cooking and baking. Thank you Mary for the great information on pineapple.

  2. I’m preparing a “backyard Luau” for my family today and sae this recipe last week for the first time ever as I searched Hawaiian desserts. Funny I should see it again so soon! I decided to make the lilikoi bars, but your dole whip recipe looks especially good (better than the ones I saw online), so I may just have to give this a try later on this summer. Thanks for the recipe!

    1. How fun! I love themes for parties or anything. I don’t know about lilikoi bars. Sounds interesting and I bet really good. Enjoy your luau with your family. That’s so special that you did that for them.

      1. Thanks, Meghan. I’m considering making a post about it at the end of the year or the beginning of next one. I’ve been trying to plan family activity boxes for them each month. And we’ll see how the bars are. I’ve never had them, but they look easy to make and delicious–described as similar to a lemon bar but with passion fruit puree. 😊😋 We shall see!

    1. Congratulations!! I wish I could help with an altered recipe. This one is just pineapple juice, pineapple, & ice cream. You could use some type of plant based or low calorie ice cream to modify the recipe.
I like real desserts with real butter, etc. I probably don’t have any “me friendly” desserts. Way to go on the weight loss! Please enjoy the pictures though. 😅

  3. I unintentionally made a “dole whip” frozen pie. It was a recipe I found online and thought it looked interesting. I don’t recommend the graham cracker pie crust. Good in theory, but dole whip is perfect just the way it is.

I haven’t had dole whip and have yet to try it. I can imagine that it tastes amazing! I’ve made pumpkin ice cream this way using pumpkin purée and vanilla ice cream (it’s easy and delicious), so I can imagine that pineapple and vanilla is a good combo too 🍍🍍

    1. I’ve never seen the Dole whip pie. I’m sure it’s good. There are Dole whip floats too. Dole Whip is very good all on its own, like you said.
It’s so refreshing. I love it!

The pumpkin ice cream sounds good. I love pumpkin pie but I’ve never had pumpkin ice cream.
      Thank you Hilary!!

      1. The pumpkin pie ice cream was an experiment of mine. I figured it should work. I have yet to see the recipe online. It’s just pumpkin purée mixed with vanilla ice cream. I used a spatula to “blend” it after melting the ice cream a bit. Then I refroze it!

As for the dole whip pie, I don’t remember where I saw the recipe. I highly recommend the pumpkin ice cream especially during autumn months!
